Depends.
I love fan fictions that explore the 'possibilities' between characters but keeping them as 'they are'. I like alternate universe if it is plausibly written and characters are as they are known and established.
However!
I especially hate fics in first character narration. I hate fics that have characters out of their established behavior and 'character'. I hate bad grammar where its painfully obvious every other sentences.
