If its confirmed swine flu...
Apr. 27th, 2009 10:57 pmI'm gonna be pissed. Apparently 44 students have been reported in the school district I work for with flu like symptoms today and were being test. One of my co-workers was sent home because she's been sick since Sat and still had a fever and was giving all the the flu signs and told to get tested to be sure it wasn't swine flu. While the district is the third or fourth largest in the state it still frightens us. But what has me pissed is that the school district is ripping into another that has shut school for the week because there were two or three students from different schools who were confirmed to have the swine flu.
My Autistic had a fever by the end of the program. I had to take her temp three times to confirm it and getting her to put the thermometer under her tongue and let me keep it there took a bit of play. I'm surprised my spur of the moment idea work but it did. I imitated what I wanted her to do and then hummed with her random noises while I waited for the thing to beep.
It really doesn't help we just ended Fiesta and a three day weekend with it. I stayed home but most of the city in one party of another has been out in mass. We have so many parades and functions its insane.
I know it is extremely unlike any of my students or even my co-worker has gotten it, but how can I not be worried when the current vaccines can do nothing and its so new and unknown in retrospect to other strains? If my uncle wasn't out of the country I've be calling him and drilling him for info since he is an infectious disease doctor, even if his specialty is in AIDS, and studies all kinds.
